The Controller — Control Vital Signs
The Controller (/controller) is the screen the instructor uses during a simulation. Everything below is live as of the current version.
Session Selector (Top of Page)
A dropdown labeled "Vital Signs Controller · [Session Name]" lets you switch between sessions or create/join new ones. This is the foundation of the Multi-Session feature — one instructor can run multiple simultaneous training stations from one device.
ECG Rhythm Selector
A categorized dropdown of every rhythm TMA can display. Categories:
- Sinus: Normal Sinus, Agonal Sinus, Sinus Bradycardia, Sinus Tachycardia
- Ectopic Atrial: Sinus Exit Block, Bradycardic/Wandering Atrial Pacemaker, Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia
- Atrial Fib/Flutter: A-fib (Slow/Normal/Rapid Response), Atrial Flutter (2:1, 3:1, 4:1)
- Junctional Rhythms: Agonal through Junctional Tachycardia, with and without Retrograde P waves
- SVT, First/Second/Third Degree AV Blocks, Pacemakers (Atrial, AV, Ventricular)
- Ventricular: Agonal, Idioventricular, Accelerated Idioventricular, V-Tach, V-Fib
- Ventricular Standstill, Asystole
Picking a rhythm shows its typical rate. Use Set Vitals to Default Based on Rhythm to auto-load realistic values.
Ectopy
Adds ectopic beats on top of the chosen rhythm: Monomorphic, Polymorphic, or None.
Rhythm Regularity
Regular or Arrhythmia. Useful for teaching the difference between irregularly irregular A-fib vs. a regularly irregular Wenckebach.
Shock Outcome
Only visible when AED Trainer is enabled. Determines what rhythm the patient converts to after a shock: No Effect (default), Normal Sinus, Sinus Tachycardia, V-Tach, V-Fib, or Asystole.
Vital Controls
Each vital has up/down arrow buttons, a typeable number field, and a V/NV toggle (Visible/Not Visible) that hides the vital from the Display Monitor entirely.
- Heart Rate (bpm) — drives the ECG rate, QRS beep, and SpO2 pulse sync
- SpO2 (%) — drives the pleth waveform
- Pleth Morphology — Normal, Bisferiens, Pulsus Alternans
- Pleth Amplitude (%) — 0% (flat/no perfusion) to 100% (full strength); lower values simulate shock/hypothermia/vasoconstriction
- Pleth PTT (ms) — Pulse Transit Time; normal 200–300ms for finger probe; longer = low perfusion/shock; shorter = arterial stiffness
- Systolic BP (mmHg) — see the NIBP article for BP-specific behavior
- Diastolic BP (mmHg) — MAP auto-calculated
- Respiratory Rate (/min) — also drives EtCO2 capnography rate
- EtCO2 (mmHg) — end-tidal CO2
- Capnography Waveform — 16 options: Normal, Pregnant #1/#2, Pediatric #1–#5, Airway Obstruction/Bronchospasm, Spontaneous Ventilation, Hyperventilation, Hypoventilation, IMV Ventilation, Apnea, Ripple Effect (Cardiogenic Oscillations), Curare Cleft
- Temperature (°F)
- Glucose (mg/dL)
- SpCO (%) — carboxyhemoglobin for CO poisoning scenarios
Set Vitals to Default Based on Rhythm
Stages realistic baseline vitals for the currently selected rhythm into the New column. You still need to hit Apply for them to appear on the Display Monitor.
Vital Values Table
Two-column table showing every vital with its Displayed value (what the monitor is showing) and New value (what you've staged). Changed rows are visually emphasized so you can see at a glance what's about to update.
Vital Trend Time
Toggle next to the Apply button for choosing Immediate Apply (instant) or Trend Apply (animated over 3–300 seconds). See the Vital Sign Trending article for full details.
Action Buttons
- Apply New Vitals — The most important button. Sends every staged New value to the Display Monitor. Nothing numeric changes until you click this.
- Pause — Freezes an active trend at the current mid-trend value. Only visible while a trend is running.
- End Trend — Stops a trend immediately. Vitals stay at the current value (they do not revert).
- Reset AED — Resets the AED Trainer panel to Standby without affecting vitals.
- Reset to Default Vitals — Reloads the default vitals for the currently selected rhythm.
- Go to Display Monitor — Opens the Display Monitor in the current session.
Display Controls (Modal)
Opened from the Display Controls button. Controls what is visible on the Display Monitor:
- Display Monitor (default ON) — Toggle OFF to hide all vitals from students.
- AED Trainer (default OFF) — Toggle ON to show the AED Trainer panel on the Display Monitor.
- Rhythm Identification (default ON) — Toggle OFF to hide the rhythm name, quizzing students on rhythm recognition.
- NIBP Auto Cycle (default ON) — Toggle OFF to hide the AUTO button from the BP tile on the Display Monitor.
Alarms & Battery (Modal)
Four tabs, all session-scoped. See the Alarms & Battery article for the full breakdown.
